Smartphones and GPS

Could you imagine how life would be without a cell phone? I remember when I was still a child and there were no cell phones. We would go out and play all day, without having to check our cell phones, Facebook and anything like that. I got my internet connection when I was 17 years old, and my first cell phone when I was 14. It was a Nokia 3310, that has recently become popular on the web and many joke that it’s indestructible. I can’t really say it’s not close to the truth, as the Nokia I had back then still works. Today, smartphones have taken over.

The smartphone

It was hard to imagine a smartphone back then or even the fact that one day we could watch movies on our cell phones. I remember how excited I was when the first color display cell phones were introduced, as well as the mp3 option for cell phones. As I was, and still am, quite the music junkie, I wanted to get one right away. The Sony Ericsson mp3 cellphones were my favorites for quite a long time (to be honest, I still have one). When the smartphones were introduced, I was quite intrigued with the whole concept, especially the touchscreen. It didn’t take long for me to want one, but I promised to myself I will take one only when my current cell phone dies. It didn’t really take long for that to happen, as the cell phone I had at the time was over 4 years old. Even though I was thinking about taking an iPhone, I chose something more affordable – the Motorola Defy, mostly because it’s much sturdier and I need a phone that won’t break the first time it falls from my hand (as a big number of smartphones do).

The possibilities

This was my first smartphone, and the only contact I had with them until that time was playing games on the ones my friends had. It took me a weekend to see what I can do with it and to set up everything the way I liked. I have to say, I love it! As I need to be up to date with everything for my work and have to be available via email for the most part of the day, it was a great investment. All the online tools I love to use, like the Google drive, Dropbox and others work like a charm on my new smartphone. The built in GPS helped me a lot of times to find my way around town. Many people don’t like the GPS as many apps use it to locate you. This represents a particular problem to people who don’t want to give their location, whatever their reasons may be.

Locating your phone

The locating software in the phone can be used for good reasons too. Imagine a person has gone missing, and the person isn’t answering their cell phone, but it’s turned on. There is a possibility to locate it using special software and the signal transmitter towers. Using this software will locate it by triangulating from which towers the SIM card gets the input. There are also websites that offer such software for free use (under certain circumstances), like kostenloshandyorten.de, so if you are interested in seeing how it works, check it out.
